November Support Spotlight: Shaun Nielsen

Shaun Nielsen
Shaun Nielsen

Q: Shaun, what do you enjoy most about working here at TazWorks?
By far the people I work for and with. This is the only company I’ve ever been with that has such a family attitude from top to bottom. It’s the open environment they’ve created here that has endeared me to TazWorks.
Q: If you had to describe working at TazWorks in three words, what would they be?
The best words to describe my experience at TazWorks are difficult, fulfilling and unique. This may sound redundant after reading through Cameron and Danica’s interviews, but it rings true for my experience here. Every day presents a new challenge or problem to solve and being empowered to resolve them is both difficult and fulfilling. I really enjoy the unique involvement I have, from providing input on our hiring decisions to building custom disclosures and all sorts of projects in-between.
Q: How do you describe your job to someone outside of work?
My position at TazWorks is varies from day to day, but I generally defer to saying I work for a background screening software company. If pressed for details, I try to explain how my job responsibilities are a mix everything from customer service, tech support, compliance expertise and anything in-between, which is almost inevitably followed by a hilarious look of confusion.
Q: What would you say is the most rewarding part about your job?
All of it! I have quite a bit of experience in customer service and support, but I’ve never been given this level of freedom to help find creative ways of helping clients. I really appreciate the opportunity to think outside the box here and challenge myself to find better or different ways of doing things.
Q: What’s the most important lesson you learned from your time at TazWorks?
What’s awesome about TazWorks is I’m consistently given the opportunity to branch out and learn new things. Like I previously mentioned, I have quite a bit of experience in customer support and I could have relied on that and been perfectly adequate at my position. What I’ve learned from TazWorks is, if you’re willing to step out of your comfort zone, you’ll be amazed at what you can learn and accomplish.
Q: Tell me about life outside of TazWorks?
That’s a great question. The other day I found myself reflecting on how different my life has become since marrying my incredible wife Katie and finding a job I enjoy so much. I spent all of my twenties and early thirties in what seemed like a sprint between my various jobs, hobbies and commitments. Now that I’ve purchased a home and settled down with Katie to start a family, my goals are bigger than myself and I’m grateful for the life my wife and I have built together.
We have found that our clients have enjoyed Shaun’s positive and helpful attitude as part of their TazWorks experience just as much as we love having him on our team. Thank you for all of your hard work, Shaun!
